Invasive species compete directly with native species, altering and destroying habitats, thus making the local environment inhospitable for native species, some of which are already threatened or endangered.
Jackson has traveled the United States hunting in pursuit of these invasive species. Black spiny-tail iguana, silver carp, Canada goose, tilapia, nutria, and wild hogs are a few examples of ones he has hunted, cooked, and eaten. Some are thought to be more delicious than meat and fish commonly found in a grocery store!
Jackson’s approach is a likely solution to minimize or eliminate these harmful, nonnative species. His book will educate fishermen, hunters, and chefs about these issues and help introduce these animals as food to the general population.
