A Soup Night at the Museum

In the opening pages of Soup Night, Maggie Stuckey says that, “At its core, Soup Night is a stunningly simple idea: get everybody together…for an informal soup supper. What is not so simple —  what is in fact quite extraordinary — is what happens next.

A strong sense of community replaces social isolation.

People no longer feel like strangers.

Children thrive in a safe environment, watched over by many loving adults...

Life seems richer, kinder, sweeter, and more fun.”

Last night, in a room bedecked with lights and tiny round tables upstairs at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), Storey employees and authors, employees from the museum and the larger MassMoCA campus, friends, neighbors, public figures, and families shared a meal together. 

The room was loud with conversation and warm with greetings, hugs, and introductions, not to mention three soups from the book — the book, which sparked the idea for this gathering and hopefully for evenings to come in communities everywhere. With many thanks to MASS MoCA for their partnership in putting the evening together and to our guests for being with us, it was, quite simply, a wonderful night and a satisfying way to end a week-long celebration of food and connection.
